I discovered Elsebeth Lavold’s Hempathy yarn last week, and thought it would make nice face cloths for removing make up and exfoliating. After some experimentation with lace patterns in an old Mon Tricot that I purchased on Ebay, I came up with the following pattern. You can make one of these in a few hours, and they will make great stocking stuffers.
Hempathy Face Cloth
Materials:
1 skein of Elsebeth Lavold’s Hempathy
U.S. 5 needles or a size that creates a fabric that you like.
Cast on 42 sts, and knit 3 rows.
Begin Pattern:
Row 1: K3, *k4, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k3*, k3.
Row 2 and all other even numbered rows: K3, purl to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 3: K3, *k2, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k2*, k3.
Row 5: K3, *k1, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k1*, k3.
Row 7: K3, * k2tog, yo, k5, yo, sl 1, k1, psso *, k3.
Row 8: work as row 2.
Repeat rows 1-8.
Middle section: Repeat three times.
Row 9: K3, k4, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k3, k18, k4, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k3, k3.
Row 10 and all other even numbered rows: K3, purl to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 11: K3, k2, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k2, k18, k2, k2tog, yo,
k1, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k2, k3.
Row 13: K3, k1, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k1, k18, k1, k2tog, yo,
k3, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k1, k3.
Row 15: K3, k2tog, yo, k5, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k18, k2tog, yo, k5, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k3.
Row 16: work as row 10.
Work rows 1-8 two more times. Knit 3 rows, and bind off on the 4th row.

I am thinking of making the eyelet v’s cloth for shower gifts at a November bridal shower. If I use the hempathy yarn or other dk weight does anyone know the approximate yardage need to complete one cloth? thanks!

I can get 2 cloths out of one skein, with enough leftover for 1/3 of another one. I use the left-over yarn to make multi-colored ones for my own use, and give away or sell the 2 cloths that are all one color.

Hello, and thank you for this pattern. I made two cloths using this, one in lilac bamboo, the other in blue cotton-acrylic mix (less horrible than it sounds). I tinkered with the pattern in the blue cloth, reversing the order of the last 16 lines. Instead of 1-8, 1-8 I knitted 8-1, 8-1, achieving a different kind of symmetry. Both cloths are pretty.
